Blind Faith that Leads to Sight

Blind Faith that Leads to Sight

An interesting moment with our grandson, Holden, the other day. (He’s all of three years old, plus a few weeks.🥰) He was licking on a lot of different things and I asked him why. He looked at me with such quiet and calm in his eyes and replied rather seriously, ‘My spit is medicine.’

Out of the mouth of a child is sometimes heard the oddest thing and as I sit in the stillness of my devotional time this morning I am reminded of what transpired. Such a precious little thought…what a living picture of Jesus! He, too, used His spit as medicine!

Mixed with some dirt to make a mud paste, applied as gunk to a blind man’s eyes, followed by instructions to go wash in the pool of Siloam. Now why would Jesus send a blind man on a journey? What faith this man exercised! He most likely groped about a bit. Probably tripped and stumbled over and into a number of people and situations as he sought to find his way in the dark, not able to see at all where he was going…only knowing that he’d been sent!

What larger than life obstacles of mind did this blind man face and have to overcome? Time and time again he must’ve repeated Jesus’ instructions to himself! It took courage and perseverance to reach the pool! What JOY to discover that upon washing in the clear, clean water….that his belief and obedience is rewarded with a first hand Experience! The opening of his eyes to the gift of sight! A miracle!

The assigned endeavor was not without risk and effort but I believe God sent angels to help guard, guide and protect him. They most likely assisted in directing the blind man as he hurried as best he could to do as Jesus bid.

Such timeless and timely reminders lay within the lines of this story….brought to us all by a reference to spit made by my youngest grandson. Imaginative, fancifully creative, out-of-the-box, and true….just like the story recorded in the Bible for me and you!

“Then Jesus spit on the ground, made mud with the saliva, and spread the mud over the blind man’s eyes. He told him, “Go wash yourself in the pool of Siloam” (Siloam means ‘sent”). So the man went and washed and came back seeing!John 9:6-7 NLT

Another neat thing? A little bit earlier that same day, I captured a video of Holden during Little Gym. It pairs rather nicely with this true story account and is intended to encourage you if you are facing something ‘just so big you can’t see around’!
